Word Impostor - Pass & Play Mode

Play Word Impostor in Pass & Play mode with friends using a single device. Take turns describing words and find the impostor!

Pass & Play lets one group play Word Impostor on a shared phone, tablet, or computer. Configure the game, enter player names, pass the device around, and reveal each secret word privately.

Why Use Pass & Play

Pass & Play is for when you're all in the same room and nobody wants to pull out their phone and punch in a room code. It's the same clue-and-vote game. The only difference is that the secret reveal happens on one shared screen instead of on everyone's own device.

It's handy for road trips, family game night, or a classroom: anywhere that passing one tablet around beats juggling five phones. The one rule that matters is privacy. Glance at your word or role, then pass the screen along face down so nobody catches it.

Game Setup

Configure your game and set player names before the round starts. Choose the number of players, check current settings, and adjust optional rules like Mr. White or selected word categories.

Pass & Play works best when everyone can briefly hold the device, read their role privately, and hand it to the next player without revealing the screen.

Number of Players

Start with at least 3 players for Classic-style rounds. The setup screen shows the selected mode, minimum player count, and recommended maximum so the group knows whether the round is ready.

Player Names

Add or edit player names before starting. Player order matters because the device is passed from one player to the next during the private reveal and clue phases.

Round Flow

  1. Set the player count and names.
  2. Review settings and selected word packages.
  3. Tap Start Game and pass the device to each player privately.
  4. Each player checks their word or role, then gives clues during the round.
  5. Move into voting, reveal the result, and start another round if the group wants to continue.
